Avec mon mail de "C'est qoui Parti Pirate"
http://lists.partipirate.org/pipermail/discussions/2013-March/thread.html

merci a l'avance.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stating the facts.

origin (simplified) :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party

Definition core values 'old' pirate party :

Opposition to current Copyright, Patent and Trademark systems.
Also called 'intellectual property' but not without controversy :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellectual_property#The_term_itself
(hence adding to the confusion within the PP !)

Then in 2009 the Uppsala Declaration :
http://wiki.piratenpartei.de/Uppsala-Deklaration#Originalversion

This precises the proposal how to change the current Copyright and Patent
legislation and adding/expanding : No Patents on Life and Nature. A drastic
review of Pharmaceutical Patents and adding ETHICS. Civil rights and
Gouverning, specificly more civil participation (highest standard of
Democracy), transparancy of our/the gouvernment/s and (better) Protection
of the Individual Privacy.
And most importantly, a political strategy as where the European Parlement
is recognised as a valid democratic gouverning structure (though with its
limitations).
(Extended in 2012 with the Prague Declaration for the future PP-EU :
http://ppeu.net/?p=339)

Added personal experience :

As I have myselve involved in the International Pirate movement I realised
soon 1 important issue, what are the pirate core principles excactly ?

Some mail can be found here (when subscribed to pp.int.general)
what are the minimum true core Pirates principles? -Attempt to get a
workable consensus-
http://lists.pirateweb.net/pipermail/pp.international.general/2012-September/thread.html

Every PP has a (slightly) different definition of these core principles.
That is a HUGE problem because with the CORE principles, meaning the base
of the PP, 'vaguely' defined is ASKING for fundamental and ethical trouble.

Today also in the french Pirate Party there is the same 'confusion' about
what ARE the pirate values unambiguously.

The problem (simplified, but works as a valid model overall) :

The rather technical Pirate Principles are not 'selling' very well to the
public (voters). Looking at the Uppsala Declaration mentioning the
pharmaceutical patents it is clear that ethics are involved. These ethics
are vaguely agreed on as based on basic 'humanism'. This leads to the
problem that indirectly the PP has also entered the sociological-economical
realm of politics. The problem is obviously that the PP is incapable to
seriously compete with the current established political parties. Also the
'old hardcore' pirates have serious issues with this new
'socialistic/collective/leftist' approach of the new members of the PP. And
they feel 'betrayed' in the Pirate Party becoming more political. Primal
reason is the (nearly total) rejection of the current politics in
gouverning. As phrased "The PP is forgetting their primal objective
(condensed) Digital Rights (including Protection and Freedom)."

Proposal :
So instead of every PP reinventing the wheel, why not find this consensus
internationally ?
Secondly, CLEARLY seperate the basic Pirate Principles from ANY political
program. (Ideally it would be included in the PP-EU statutes for example)

Basicly (oversimplified, but works as a valid model overall) there are two
groups, the 'digital activists' (focus internet and surveillance) and the
'humanists' (focus social movements/the 'intellectuels'). Instead of
arguing who is more right or wrong better is to unify.
what I propose is, as mentioned before, define the Pirate Core Principles
precisely and from these principles one relates the 'social/humanistic'
principles on a second plain, the 'compatible' political program. So the
activist Pirates can continue the battle on their terrain and the
social/humanitarian Pirates can continue it on theirs without conflict and
will actually mutually reenforce the Pirate cause and its success.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Idea of what the Pirate Core Principles should include :
(Definitely in need of improvements :)

1. Pivacy Protection.
Interesting to note that because of the nature of Privacy it is always a
relative matter. example, living in a small village deep in the
mountains/dessert compared with a suburb of a metropole one can easily
distinguish the differences in the Privacy problematics. For clearly the
humanistic approach is valid and logical.

2. (Practical) Transparency in Gouverning and the process of Public
Decision-making.

3. A total Reform of the Copyright and Patents (and Trademarks?)
Again stipulating No Patents on Life or Nature (or derivates/processes).

4. Free Sharing and Availability of the Public Knowledge and Information
(without infriging the Privacy).

5. Right of Free (Basic and Advanced) Education.
note : this has to be included because of the current 'technocratical'
society makes it impossible, without education, to equaly and fairly
participate this complex society.

6. No Taxation without representation.
Lets be fair, it is all about the money in the end. This simple rule would
enhold all possible Economical, Social and Equitable 'Solutions/Proposals'
possible without fighting over how precisely it should be done because
there are (always) more solutions available !

7. Pirates promote always to work with or towards Consensus with the use of
Common Sense and Direct Voting and Representation.
note : To avoid political differences I am not refering to LiquidDem, LFB,
Direct Democracy, etc. because these are clearly tools and can therefor
never be a goal in itself.

8. The Pirate Codex :
http://blog.pirates-without-borders.org/pirates-codex/
We are All Human therefor we deserve all basic Humanity and Freedom. Only
the universal human rights are NOT sufficiant to cover this domain.
With the Pirate Codex we could put 'Pirate Humanism' on the worldmap,
talking about hacking politics :p

This is as 'free' as I can define the Pirate Party without dictating
against common sense, logic or humanism.

Pirately,
